<p class="run-inhead"><img src="../images/ht_01.gif" alt="How To icon" height="2" width="2" /><br> Add a clip to a movie</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="bold">1.</span> Move the current-time indicator <img src="../images/TimeBarRulerTimeThumb_N.gif" alt="current-time indicator " height="15" width="13" /> to the location in the movie where you want to insert the clip. Watch the frames in the Monitor window to find the desired location. </p><p class="paragraph"><span class="Emphasis">Note:</span><span class="Emphasis"> If you insert a clip in the middle of another clip, it splits the other clip.</span></p><p class="paragraph"><span class="bold">2.</span> Use one of the following techniques to drag the clip from the Monitor window or Media window, letting the pointer snap to the current-time indicator:</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="bold">·</span> To shift aside clips on all tracks to accommodate the clip, drag the clip to the desired location in the Timeline window.</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="bold">·</span> To shift aside clips only on the target and linked tracks, Alt-drag the clip to the desired location in the Timeline window. </p><p class="paragraph"><span class="bold">·</span> To replace existing frames in the movie, Ctrl-drag the clip to the Timeline window. </p><p class="paragraph"><span class="bold">·</span> To create a new track for the clip, drag the clip into the blank space above the topmost video track in the Timeline window.</p><p class="paragraph"><span class="bold">Related Help Topics</span></p><p class="paragraph"><a target="help" href="../1_6_4_2.html">Inserting clips into a movie</a></p><p class="paragraph"><a target="help" href="../1_6_4_3.html">Overlaying clips in a movie</a></p>
